I’ve wanted a violin for a long time. I took lessons several years ago and it’s an instrument with which I’ve always felt an affinity. I’ve been torn lately, though. Do I buy a “beginner’s kit” off of ebay. I’d seenĀ one of the instruments on Fiddler Man’s website, and I was pretty darn impressed. Still, I held back.
I know from working with clarinets that I wasn’t sure what I’d be getting, and I really wanted to see the instrument before I bought it. I found a seller on Craig’s List and tonight I picked up my violin.
From what I can tell based on this message forum discussion, and then this site, my violin is a “Nippon” violin dating back to Pre WWII, and could be as early as 1910. Very cool!
I have my bow and accessories ordered and hope they arrive this week. An instrument this old has certainly seen its fair share of players and experiences. The energy in it feels absolutely wonderful. (I had my choice of three violins, and this one really spoke to me.) I can’t wait to start working with it.
